Estrellita - Atlanta

Estrellita - Atlanta

Filipino | Late Lunch | Small hole in the wall, good prices, specialty food

Why We Went

Following a visit to the Atlanta Zoo, we looked for something nearby that felt casual but unique. Estrellita came up via the Michelin Guide, and the combination of Filipino comfort food and a no-frills setting made it an easy choice for a late lunch.

What We Ordered

  • Mains: Pork Adobo, Lechon Kawali, Filipino Chicken BBQ
  • Sides: Chicharron Crispy Chicken Skins, Cassava Fries
  • Dessert: Ube Ice Cream

What Stood Out on the Menu (Best dish, Favorite flavor or technique, Must order)

  1. The depth of marinade across the pork dishes stood out immediately; especially the adobo, which was savory without being heavy and clearly benefited from time rather than excess seasoning.
  2. The chicharron chicken skins were an unexpected highlight. I had never tried the dish before, but they were addictive on their own and especially effective with the accompanying sauce, whose tang cut through the saltiness and kept the dish from feeling one-note.
  3. If ordering selectively, the pork adobo feels non-negotiable, while the chicken skins are worth adding for contrast; the ube ice cream works well as a restrained, not overly sweet finish, and is an essential complement to the rich meal.

Other Aspects

  1. The ambiance and overall experience were nearly as memorable as the food. While the restaurant is extremely small and likely crowded during peak hours, the attention to detail in the interior is evident. The size of the space lends itself to a homestyle feel, with cozy seating, intricate cups, and warm lighting from the chandelier reinforcing the authenticity of the cuisine.
  2. The value for money is excellent. Portion sizes relative to cost are generous, and the menu clearly lends itself to family-style sharing.
  3. Even the presentation of the ice cream, served in a wooden bowl with a wooden spoon, felt intentional and aligned with the restaurant’s overall aesthetic.

Would I Go Back?

Yes absolutely, particularly during non-peak hours with small groups.
